PLUMBING PROJECTS
Many plumbing projects such as replacing a faucet, a toilet, or a washing machine can be done by using the in-unit shutoff valves, aka angle stops, and do not require shutting off water to the entire unit. If you need to replace your unit water shutoff valve because it is stuck or doesn't completely shut off water to the inside of the unit, water will have to be turned off at the next point upstream which is the city's meter. Read the notes on picture on the above link for more information.
If you need to replace your unit water shutoff valve you will need to 1) hire a plumber to replace the valve, 2) arrange to have the water shutoff at the water meter, a step that will affect many units in the complex (see PVFP's water meter zone map), and 3) post water shutoff notices on all units that will be affected by your shutoff at least 36 hours in advance. Note that per the city's rules, only the city can do Step #2, so have your plumber contact the city well before you plan to replace your unit water shutoff valve. If the city needs permission from the property manager, have them contact Affirmative Management.
Finally, when posting water shutoff notices, please tape them to the garage door frame (not to the roll-up garage door itself) + the front door, and use blue painter's tape or masking tape. Try not to use tape that will pull the paint off the wood frame or the front door.
